Volleyball roles are specialized, but they connect in every rally. The same ball may pass through a defender, setter, attacker, blocker, and cover player within seconds.

Setter

The setter is the offense’s decision-maker. They read the pass, blockers, and attacker timing to choose the best option.

Outside Hitter

Outside hitters carry a heavy workload. They receive serves, defend, and often attack high-pressure balls from the left side.

Middle Blocker

Middle blockers create quick offense and lead the blocking system. Their footwork helps close space against both middle and wing attacks.

Opposite Hitter

Opposites usually attack from the right side and often provide major scoring. Many also block against the opponent’s strongest outside hitter.

Libero

The libero is a defensive specialist who usually wears a contrasting jersey. This role is designed to improve passing, digging, and back-row stability.
